OUR 2010 PRE-MARATHON DINNER............Took place on Friday, November 5, 2010 this year.  Where?  At Tony’s DiNapoli of course.  We had our first Pre-Marathon Dinner back in 2006 and have had it there every year since.  The atmosphere is very New York City, the family-style dining fits the bill and the food is just scrumptious.

As you will see from the group picture of our Nick’s 2010 Marathon Team below, a large majority of team members were present. This year we had one of the recipients of Nick’s award present, Rosalyn Joseph.  Rosalyn was one of our 2009 recipients.  That went so well that we will try to have at least one recipient present at our dinner each year.  Keep in mind though, that most of these kids attend out-of-town colleges.

The Pre-Marathon dinner is one of the highlights of this fundraiser, especially for us who are doing all the behind the scenes work.  We get to meet these people who have worked hard fulfilling their fundraising obligations and for some going way beyond that. Ron Joy would fit that bill raising $9,400.00 and with matching gifts still to come in.
This year, the NYRR incorporated Crowdrise, a fundraising website, into their curriculum.  If a charity enrolled with Crowdrise, setting up a page on the website, their page would be circulated to all the runners who got into the 2010 race by means of the lottery with the hope that one or more of them might want to run and raise money for your charity.  This year we enrolled and Toni Robertson was one of those runners who chose our charity to raise money for.  Toni did very well for us and raised $2,422.00.

MARATHON RACE DAY.......................Took place on Sunday, November 7th, 2010.  Weather-wise it was a perfect day to run.  Their feedback told us that their day was one to be remembered and that meeting some of their team mates at the Pre-Marathon Dinner the Friday before created some new friendships.  To follow is a quote from one of our second-time around team members, Katy DeCoursey.  The runners e-mail each other the day after the race, asking each other how they did, and this is what Katy wrote. “4:38....Had a great run on the whole but my plantar fasciitis slowed me down a ton.  Ran the whole way, and while I was--40 minutes slower than goal, I’m still pleased!  Lucky for me, the good people of NYC carried me from mile 23 to home!  I also got to run behind good old Edison during the early parts of the race....and lots of other extremely inspiring people.  Just wanted to say that it’s been an honor to be a part of this team and I hope you all relished your run yesterday.....it’s never easy, but  it’s an unforgettable thing that we all just accomplished and a bond that can never be broken”.

This is what it is all about for us.  The runners are always thanking us for the opportunity, but they are the ones who bring to us the inspiration, the meaning of commitment, the money we raise is just a perk.  They are what makes us want to come back and have another Marathon fundraiser each year.

We have placed our application with the NYRR as a request to be considered once more for The Charity Partner’s Program in 2011.  Our participation in the 2011 ING NYC Marathon would be very significant, since 9/11/11 will be the Tenth Anniversary of the attacks at the Word Trade Center.
